Welcome back to another Ask Me Anything, a weekly series where we talk to our friends, our viewers, and our community about all of their pressing needs, questions, wants, and desires.
Let’s take a look at the mailbag to see which questions are burning this week.
It is proper etiquette to text a blogger, influencer, or journalist your pitch? And what if you’ve also emailed and left a voicemail? OK or not OK? You decide…
Is Texting the New Media Relations?
Yesterday I received an email from a PR person doing a little media relations for some new hires.
It’s not a fit for Spin Sucks so I just deleted it.
A couple of hours later, I received a text message that said, “Hi, Gini. My name is XX and I’m calling from XX! I sent an email about 2 hours ago regarding my client XX. Will you take a look at it when you get the chance? Thanks!”
She also left me a voicemail, which I deleted without listening to.
THIS IS INSANE, Y’ALL!
I don’t know if this is the cool new thing to do.
Or if, because we’re all working from home and using our personal phones, it’s now kosher.
Perhaps some bloggers, influencers, or journalists think it’s OK.
I don’t know if saying I’m kind of irritated by it is showing my age, but I’d love to hear from all of you.
Do you text, leave a voicemail, and email journalists, bloggers, and influencers within two hours of one another?
Or do you just go with one mode of communication?
More, do you TEXT them without knowing them?
I will leave that question for you.
Have a Question For Us?
Watch the video so you can meet my intern’s new friend!
And…if you have a question for a future AMA you can drop them below or join us in the (free) Spin Sucks Community.
You can also find us on social media, email us, or stop by with a bottle of wine for porch drinking…but don’t freaking text me unless I say it’s OK!
