I always say that never fall for the trap of buying something because your favorite influencer mentioned it on their paid collaboration with the brand and product. Most of the products are used for a short period of time and based on the bias of people, they’d tell you how good the product is, because they are paid to say it!
The truth, however, is told by the people who purchased it with their hard earned money and used it to for their own purposes. And most cases, things are identified after years of use. Biggest example is Hasselblad 500C/M, a Medium Format camera that was launched in 1957, but got fame in 1962 after it was sent to space and first pictures of Planet Earth were captured with it. It still is one the the best camera manufacturer along with coveted Leica Rangefinders in the photographers community.
I have been a hobby photographer for over 20 years now. Started with disposable film camera, then moved to different generations of phone cameras from 0.3 mpx Sony Ericsson w200i to current 40mpx Huawei Mate 20 Pro, along with dedicated cameras and DSLRs over two decades of time.
The three cameras you see in the image are Canon 5DS (full frame for landscape and macro), Canon 1D Mark IV(APS-H for wildlife and sports) and Canon 700D(APS-C, Astrography and Street) that I purchased over the years. except for 700D, other two camera are bought used. If I consider the launch price of these three cameras, they’d be around £9000+ or $10,000+ or ₹10,00,000 just for the DSLR body. Add the long list of lenses I have, it would be double the original cost of the gear.
However, I didn’t pay the full price. I only paid a fraction of it because I waited years before buying them. They deprecated in price, and their quality is still great and suitable for my hobby usage, and would last another decade if kept well.
The sample images attached are clicked with Canon 5DS and have extremely sharp details in them at 50mpx. For most of my usage, I’d be able to produce similar results with either my 5 year old Huawei Mate 20 Pro, or a Decade old 700D or 12 Year old 1D Mark IV or one that is used, 8 years old 5DS, with the same 50mm Lens that’s also a decade old now.
I have been using these cameras for a while now and can say that I might be missing out on some modern features like ultra-fast auto focus, or 4k Video, but there is no loss of high quality images and my curiosity to learn and capture the moments better.
Therefore, make your own choices while spending your money and choose based on your need and budget rather than what some influencer is saying on their paid promotion.
